I’m actually impressed – instead of abandoning the streetlamp idea after it didn’t make it in time for independence, Juba is still working on finishing them off.
Not only are the poles all up, but for the past week they’ve continued to put the solar converters and lights up. Driving home on the streets of Juba to find some parts are actually lit is very disconcerting. Granted it’s only on a couple of stretches and sometimes it’s only 3 lights in a row, but.. hey, progress.
It’s like little Juba is growing into an adult city. I guess it’s an apt analogy when you think about it: Finally got its independence, so now it’s time to stop being a teenager and take full responsibility for itself.
And lights are certainly a small part of that.
